[imgl=foxh0]Below Caen Hill[/img] After the main flight of locks on Caen Hill, the Kennet and Avon Canal continues to descend through another six or seven locks to Lower Foxhangers Farm. In this picture you see boats waiting to go up the main flight the following morning.
[imgr=foxh1]Upper Foxhangers[/img] A big wide pound, lillies, and a great beauty in July when this picture was taken. It pretty still (but cooler) in the winter.
[imgl=foxh2]Boat descends Devizes locks[/img] This boat - with its crew of 8 - has just come all the way down from lock 50 in
Devizes to lock 24 - just two more to go.
[imgr=foxh3]Below the bottom lock[/img] Once you've passed through lock 22, you go past a boatyard and hire boat base ... with a two or three mile break to the locks at
Seend.
[imgl=foxh4]Old Abutments[/img] The Berks and Hants railway line used to cross the canal here - this was the line that parellelled the canal from Reading all the way to
Trowbridge. The section from
Patney and Chirton to
Holt closed in 1966. Here are the remains of the middle support for the canal bridge - there are substantial earthworks to the side too.
