For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Community Area - considerations for the future

This is a page that shows some of the areas that Community Area Partnerships such as Melksham should be considering for now and the future. The pictures are purely illustrative - some are local to Melksham, others are ones that I have taken far and wide

[imgl=avfx]Housing[/img] Should new housing be built, and if so, where? Should it replace old or be on green fields? What type of housing, and how should it be served by ancilliary services?

[imgl=avfy]Business, Commerce and Industry[/img]Should a town retain traditional manufacturing? Look for new busineesses, perhaps more service based? Or should the town become a residential area with employment elsewhere?

[imgl=avfa]Tourism[/img] Does the town attract tourists? Does the town WANT to attract tourists, and if so, how? How can we attract them? How can we give them a good experience so that they send us more?

[imgl=avfi]Waterway[/img]The Melksham area already has the Kennet and Avon Canal passing through the more rural section to the south, but it's now proposed to open a fresh section of waterway to build towards a restoration of the Wilts and Berks link from Semington to Abingdon. Is this a good idea? What are the issues? If it goes ahead, which options should be choshen to make sure it does what we want for our own area?

[imgl=avfb]Young People[/img]From Birth to nursery to school, to teenage and first jobs. How do we provide faciities for new parents? Schools and other support - in study time and in leisure time? What is there for the kids to do?

[imgl=avfc]Health and the Elderly[/img]Hospitals, care homes, support as family members pass away and older people become more dependent. What needs to be provided in the area? How can we ensure that the area is fit for people in their retired years, or who are younger but never the less are less able to move freely and fully around.

[imgl=avff]Traffic[/img]Do we design for heavy lorries and heavy car traffic? Can we reduce the need to travel? Can we provide easy access parking?

[imgl=avfz]Public Transport[/img]That's mostly "buses" in the Melksham area. We do have the occasional train. Can we co-ordinate public transport to make for better connections? Can we improve the train services? Or should we just use a stick of higher private motoring costs to force people financially onto the current services? Should we be providing new services as new housing areas open, rather than letting everyone move in, buy or bring cars, and only then provide an public transport alternative?

[imgl=avfd]Walking and Cycling[/img]Should we plan for shorter journeys, so that people can walk and cycle? Should new cycling routes be provided?

[imgl=avfh]Security and Safety[/img]How should we be policed? How can we make our home and workplaces, our leisure places and points between safer and more secure?
