[imgr=vachip]Chipmunk![/img] During a trip to the USA in September 2008 (See also

Reunion), we took a few minutes from a busy schedule to walk around the grounds at Colvin Run Mill, and happened upon this chipmunk - and other wildlife too.
[imgl=vacolvintop]Headrace and Mill - Colvin Run Mill[/img] Colvin Run Mill is a grist mill (I had to look up Grist - "Grist is grain that has been separated from its chaff in preparation for grinding. It can also mean grain that has been ground at a grist mill." With ground maize, it makes "grits") dating from around 1810, and much restored around 1970. This view is of the main building from the leet that takes water to the top of the waterwheel (the headrace).
[imgr=vacolvincanada]Canada Geese[/img] Colvin Mill boasts grassy picnic areas and wildfowl such as these Canada Geese.
[imgl=vacolvinbase]Mill Wheel, Colvin Run Mill[/img] The Mill Wheel at Colvin Run Mill i smade of oak and dates from 1970. It's an overshot wheel, meaning that the water enters the wheel high up allowing for a smaller flow of water to make for greater energy release.
[imgr=vacolvinheron]Heron[/img] The online guide to Colvin Mill Run says that you can occasionally see a heron in the lower pool - and we were lucky enough to do so, though he's very distant!
