The Kennet and Avon at Caen Hill
The Kennet and Avon Canal runs a couple of miles to the south of
Melksham where
Well House Consultants is located and the national
Cycling path runs along the old track where horses used to tow boats.

The K and A (as we know it) was fortified as the last line of defense for the Midlands and North of England during the second world war and it's guarded by numerous fortified positions known as pillboxes. To this day, you'll find pillboxes hidden in the undergrowth at quite frequent intervals

After falling into disrepair in the 1950s, the K and A was restored in the 1990s. Although it took a few years thereafter to correct water supply problems, today it's a reliable and popular holiday with lots of colorful boats to be seen

To the east, the canal continues through the Vale of
Pewsey, past
Honey Street to
Wootton Rivers,
Savernake and
Crofton.
The
Wilts and Berks Canal used to run from the Kennet and Avon at Semingon via
Melksham,
Swindon and Wantage to the Thames at Abindgon.
