Bath - near the city centre

Bath is a touring Mecca - you'll find museums, parks, shopping and history all set in great scenery - and good public transport too such as the bus from Melksham and the train from London to Bristol.

Map locator - Bath

The Romans built baths at Bath (thus the name) and the City was much extended in Georgian times. Here's Bath Street that leads the short distance from the Pump rooms to the Roman Baths.

The River Avon flows through Bath, and there are walks and gardens on both banks

The river is crossed by the Pultney Bridge - an old crossing with shops on either side. Although it looks grand from the Esplanade, you probably wouldn't even realise you were on a bridge if you simply walked along the road that goes over it.
