Testing availability of our servers and training systems
We use a script written in Expect (an extension of the Tcl language) to check the availability of our servers online, within our own training centre's intranet, and when we're on site.
PING
Expect allows us to run a number of "ping"s in parallel, so that we can get a full report within a few seconds even if only a few of the systems that we're testing are available.

Select HERE to run an availability test now

Notes: if any of the systems that we're testing isn't available, when it should be, there will be a delay of a few seconds before you see the response page. We cover Tcl and Expect on our Tcl Basics course. Our parallel ping example is covered in our Expect Processes module. The source code of this script is available in our post-course samples section
