Groupsave ticket calculator
Conditionals and Loops example from a Well House Consultants training course

Source code: groupsave Module: Y103
""" On a Groupsave 3 ticket, 3 adults may travel for the price of 2,
and on a Groupsave 4, 4 adults may travel for the price of two. On
Groupsave, children travel for a pound each.
With regular (non groupsave) tickets, chldren travel at half fare.
Here is a program which applies the pricing algorithms to let you
work out what you should buy in terms of tickets if you're taking a
group. It's a programming example from a course, so it's "errors
and ommission excepted" - in other words, it's not the authortative
fare = float(raw_input("How much does an adult fare cost? "))
adults = int(raw_input("How many adults are travelling? "))
children = int(raw_input("How many kids with them? "))
# Let's deal with each differently priced scenario
if adults < 3:
ad_price = fare * adults
kid_price = fare / 2.0 * children
elif adults == 3:
ad_price = fare * 2
kid_price = 1.0 * children
number_groups = adults / 4
left_overs = adults % 4
if left_overs == 3:
left_overs = 0
number_groups = number_groups + 1
ad_price = fare * 2 * number_groups + left_overs * fare
kid_price = 1.0 * children
# Whichever scenario it was, we now have set up ad_price and kid_price
# to give us the pricing for adults and children
tot_price = ad_price + kid_price
print "Adult fares - ",ad_price
print "Child fares - ",kid_price
print "Total fares - ",tot_price
