For 2021 - online Python 3 training - see ((here)).
Our plans were to retire in summer 2020 and see the world, but Coronavirus has lead us into a lot of lockdown programming in Python 3 and PHP 7.
We can now offer tailored online training - small groups, real tutors - works really well for groups of 4 to 14 delegates. Anywhere in the world; course language English.
Please ask about private 'maintenance' training for Python 2, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, etc.

There's a big difference between Twenty Thousand (20,000) and Two Hundred Thousand (200,000).
There were somewhat under 20,000 train journeys made on the Chippenham to Trowbridge (via Melksham) railway line in the year to December 2013, and we anticipate that the number will be close to 200,000 in the ...

|4188||Extended Weekend - but not a quiet one!|
Back to Manchester this Monday morning for the final 2 days of a PHP course for the graduate intake at my customer. I've trained the same 10 bright people for the last two weeks too - looking forward to finishing things off with them by tomorrow evening, then south to Milton Keynes.
Since I was here ...

There are 2 buses every hour from Melksham to Bath, Monday to Saturday daytime - the X72 operated by Faresaver and the 271 / 272 operated by First. After an extended series of requests, these two services now have a varied route so providing hourly services from Devizes and beyond, ...
|4185||TransWilts Trains - running a successful campaign talk|
I have been asked to talk for a few minutes at TravelWatch SouthWest later today...
The TransWilts line from Swindon to Westbury, via Chippenham, Melksham and Trowbridge, and on to Salisbury via Dilton Marsh and Warminster is a line on which the only two trains operating each day run in "marginal time" ...
|4173||Train and Rail Travel - who runs it and where do I ask questions?|
"Who can I ask"?
One of the big questions that rail passengers, and potential rail passengers, ask. And there are so many different organisations involved that the answer's not straightforward. It gets even more complex for those of us who look beyond our daily travel and look to helping contribute ...
|4040||Report on the last year - Melksham Railway Developement Group for Melksham Without Parish Council|
Dear Members of Melksham Without,
The Melksham Railway Development Group has had a busy year - meeting every 2 moths to bring together and co-ordinate the continuance and improvement of rail services calling at Melksham, and to encourage the retention, maintenance and improvement of the station, facilities ...

Can you identify with any of these questions? Would you like to help to make things better? There's a need for improved co-ordination between transport providers, various user groups, local authorities, special interest groups - and the people who use the services too!
As a group which is working ...
|3882||Community Transport - Pewsey, Taunton, and the whole picture too|
Just a week into October ... and yet so much has happened already ... it's the meeting season. On Rail / transport alone, two meetings in a week.
I travelled up to Pewsey on Thursday evening, and attended a packed meeting in the Church Hall. Pewsey currently has 19 trains per day calling ...
|3677||Some advise for guest speakers at meetings|
I "get around" in various roles I hold - to SCOB meetings (to do with the Melksham Campus), to rail meetings (to do with better rail services in Wiltshire). Usually, there's a guest speaker or guest visitors at the meeting; on a few occasions, that's my role. And the behaviour of the guest speaker fascinates ...
|3221||How long is a speech?|
I regularly take part in "Just a minute" at TravelWatch SouthWest, where delegates who wish to raise an issue of give a quick update are allowed to speak for up to 60 seconds ... at which point a timer rings, and they have to stop. Such talks, to an audience of receptive friends and contacts, are usually ...
|3194||Buses - what they cost and their future direction in the SW and in Wiltshire|
Some interesting figures from a bus operator - the Go-Ahead group - telling us where their income comes from. This is NOT a company that serves Melksham (their nearest company to us is Wilts and Dorset, who operate to Devizes from Salisbury). Annual income relating to bus operations:
1.80 billion in ...

|2748||Monitoring the success and traffic of your web site|
If you're looking after a shopping centre, a major store, or a specialist shop on Bank Street, you'll want to know roughly how many people you've got "in", roughly what they're doing, and whether there's going to be a rush in a few minutes. And so it should be with a website - be it a virtual shop where ...
|2666||Random thoughts on Melksham Town Planning and development|
On Friday evening, I attended the Mayor's reception in Melksham Assembly Hall, and on Saturday I traveled to Taunton to attend TravelWatch SouthWest. At one of those meetings (and I'm ashamed to say I can't recall which) someone made the poignant comment that, for the most part, Town Planners don't actually ...
|2664||Oliver Cromwell at Bristol Temple Meads|
I've been to Taunton today - a meeting of TravelWatch SouthWest which I'll be documenting elsewhere. But I couldn't resist this picture of Oliver Cromwell - Britannia class 4-6-2 locomotive no. 70013 - which was in Bristol Temple Meads on our return and set off from there on a special trip, named ...
|2438||Listening to The Minister|
You've got to admire the guy - Paul Clark MP, Undersecretary of State, arrived at Saturday's TravelWatch South West meeting during the chairman's introduction. And he was the first speaker. Without visual aids - with just his name and role projected all the time - he spoke for 30 minutes without any ...

Article 2 - How much does a train service actually cost?
|1560||HST Power Car TravelWatch SouthWest|
Today, I had a chance to listen to Andrew Haines - CEO of First Great Western, and the man who has been given the task of turning certain aspects of the company - which is currently something of an embarrassment to the "First" brand - around. You'll find me writing more seriously about what he had to ...

What is TravelWatch?
TWSW was established in 2001 as The South West Public Transport Users’ Forum (SWPTUF) to promote the interests of public transport users in the South West of England (comprising the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire and the unitary authorities of Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Torbay).
The Forum became a Community Interest Company, limited by guarantee, in August 2005. SWPTUF adopted the trading name of TravelWatch SouthWest in June 2006 and the Community Interest Company changed name to TravelWatch SouthWest CIC in November 2008.
Membership of the TravelWatch SouthWest CIC is open to every ‘not-for-profit’ organisation in the South West of England whose sole or principal purpose is to represent the users of any public transport service or to promote the development of public transport services – membership is also open to other ‘not-for-profit’ organisations’ in the South West England who represent the interests of special and potential classes of public transport users e.g. the disabled or the elderly. TWSW currently has over one hundred affiliated organisations.
TWSW, which is a social enterprise company, acts as an advocate for passengers to lobby for the improvement of public transport in the region and works closely with local authorities, business organisations, partnerships and other stakeholder groups – with the dissolution of the former Rail Passengers Committee for Western England in July 2005, TWSW is the representative body for public transport users throughout the South West of England.
