|4287||TransWilts CRP - walking in Melksham Carnival|
Well ... I've not seen anything like it. Several dozen of us - TransWilts Community Rail Partnership and friends (Friends of Bristol Suburban railways of special note) walked in the Melksham Carival Parade yesterday, themed on "things you can take on a train". We had pushchair, bicycle, luggage, ...
|4141||My pictures of Melksham Carnival, 13th July 2013|
Pictures of Melksham Carnival, taken from the corner of Spa Road / Coronation Road / Warwick Crescent. Many of these pictures are taken into the light and it's very difficult to do justice in a photograph to the enclosed floats, where the pictures have to be shot into shadow too. Come and see the carnival ...
|4140||Riots in Melksham |
Melksham has a place in history - with riots in 1738, 1747 and 1750. From Wiltshire Community Hostory ... "In Melksham, unlike Trowbridge, the [clothier] industry suffered further decline in the 18th century and it was also plagued with disputes and disturbances. In 1738 a leading clothier, Henry Coulthurst, ...
|4120||American Circus in Melksham|
It's really good to have the American Circus visit Melksham. Dad and I went to see the show this afternoon.
The team running the show must have been 30 to 40 strong, the audience many hundreds. And it's really good to see atmosphere and pazazz, not danger and animals!
Last day (this ...

|3360||Melksham Carnival, 2011 - pictures|
Melksham Carnival was yesterday - 16th July - and I was back in Melksham just in time to see the parade go past the corner of Coronation Road and Warwick Crescent. Lead - this year - by a "fun run".
And here comes the parade "proper" ... (click on any image to enlarge it into a new frame):
|3207||Lambing at Lackham|
11th and 12th, 18th and 19th March 2010 ... lambing at Lackham. Lackham is the agricultural and rural wing of Wilthshire college, and from spring to autumn there are various events and open days there ... starting with lambing.
|3191||Date of the Census (which month and day?)|
I gave a flippant answer to a question Lisa asked me earlier - "when did the 1891 census take place" and I answered 1891. ;-). Of course, she was looking for the date within the year. That wasn't as easy to find as you might expect - so here's a full list:
1801 - 10th March
1811 - 27th May
|3062||Melksham Carnival - getting ready for 2011|
"Carnival in November?" you ask. Yes - the Melksham Carnival Committee is looking forward to 16th July 2011, and early on Friday morning the lady who's going to be looking after their web site popped in for breakfast and to be shown the ropes. And I'm delighted to see that - by Saturday morning - there ...
|2875||A long day in Melksham ...|
After breakfast, I started early (yes - I know it's Saturday!) reviewing Perl code (you can see here a sample piece of code which I projected and looked for 'issues' in with the group.)
The on to the Party in the Park - you can see here the stand that was set up and run by Chris and Miriam, Colin and ...
|2671||Melksham - Carnival, Party in the Park, and Spot the Oddity|
Saturday, 17th July 2010. There's a lot happening in Melksham, and here (for the newcomer) is a list of the events which are separately organised but co-operatively co-ordinated.
Melksham Carnival. The Melksham Carnival Parade assembles at Cooper Tires in the afternoon, and leaves at 6 p.m. to follow ...
Melksham Carnival and Melksham Party in the Park take place this year on Saturday, 17th July ("this year" is 2010).
The whole town comes out on Carnival day! From lunchtime onwards, there are stalls on King George's Fields, and food and entertainment - well organised by the PIP team. Then - late afternoon ...
|2498||Remembrance Sunday 2009, Melksham|
Remembrance Sunday - and I was honored to be asked by the Chamber of Commerce to lay a wreath at the war memorial on their behalf. It was a real community gathering and a really poignant service in the church which concluded outside at the war memorial. Good to see such a large congregation, so many ...
|2298||Melksham Carnival Parade - the people|
Carnival is all about people ... people in the carnival, and people watching the carnival.

|2297||Standing on the corner, Melksham Carnival|
Yesterday was Melksham's "Party in the Park" and Carnival ... the Carnival Parade running from the car park of Cooper Avon Tires at about 6 p.m., looping through the town centre, with a variety of walking groups and floats.
On days like this, Well House Manor is ideally placed as we're close enough ...
|1770||3 hours from Milton Keynes|
I finished training at the end of Friday in Milton Keynes ... with a 2 to 3 hour drive home through the traffic travelling to start the Bank Holiday. Why rush it? I kept off the motorways, and stopped on the way to take a picture or two. Here are some of the images from the beside road from Milton ...
Yesterday was American's Thanksgiving Day, and having a wife who was born American in North Carolina and lived for many years before I met her in Florida, it's one of the special days / times on a par with Christmas and Easter that we celebrate a little. We sat our our dining table with friends and ...
|1631||Looking back through some photos|
A Sunday afternoon - and a Bank Holiday one at that. I'm not sure why (suggestions of age and workload are probably along the right lines!) but I lay down just after lunchtime and dozed ... and, up again now, I am starting to do some low key stuff including labeling up some old pictures.
|1540||Chinese New Year|
Microsoft taking over Yahoo ... Sun taking over MySQL ... Oracle taking over BEA. I knew we had just celebrated the Chinese new year and I was wondering what you're we're into. I think it must be the year of the takeover! ...
|1269||Party in the Park - review|
Last Saturday's Party in the Park was a chance to meet old friends and new - the day when everyone who is anyone (and anyone who is not everyone) comes out to the park to the party, or to the town's streets to see the carnival.
This year, I helped with a stand at Party in the Park and got a few minutes ...
|1209||Where did the Bank Holiday go?|
Where did the Bank Holiday go? You'll have seen my comments about the model railway exhibition that was so good that I visited on 2 days; it must be 25 years since I was involved with any modelling and it was wonderful to see the sort of thing that's available these days and being done. A pleasure ...
It's only Tuesday, and yet Saturday seems an age away. We were in the town that claims to be the home of the largest illuminated carnival in the world (or I think that's what they said) and there were statues of Guy Fawkes inside and out.
Both statues proudly celebrated 400 years of the gunpowder ...
Have a great Bank Holiday.
