For 2023 - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

Lovely weather for our Edwardian afternoon at Well House Manor. The Pimms flowed, the atmosphere was great, the game of croquet, cucumber sandwiches (cucumbers grown in our own geerhouses) and cream teas. And Alice turned up along with the Queen of Hearts!       A full hotel tonight ...

4139Out of doors (mostly) at Well House in Melksham
What can I say? It's been a lovely day... I'm just waiting for the final checkins. We've had comings and goings all day - an event booked and deposit paid, rooms shown, a room changed over, deliveries of food, fruit and water, a run on orange juice in the cafe. A briefcase for lost property, and a successful ...
4083Spring at Well House Manor - Teas and Coffees, Museum, Garden, Rooms
A beautiful spring day... though still a bit chilly. But the museum for Melksham is open every afternoon, and we're serving bean to cup coffee and cream teas inside and (currently for the more robust!) outside too.     If you've got relatives coming to stay over the next few weeks, we've ...
4030What is on OUR pond?
Over the weekend, the first member of the Well House Team to arrive at Well House Manor was delighted to see a pair of mallards on our pond / fountain. Several of us did our best to take pictures, but some of us (i.e. myself) got shakey and blurred pictures. Rachel, who's picture I've posted here ...
3980Well House Manor in the snow
It's very pretty at Well House Manor today - around 15 cm of snow (should I say 6") ...       Has this effected us? Not really - our C++ course ate in house rather than walking into town, and some guests who are due to stay tonight phoned to ask about road conditions. In the ...
3814Returning guests - a sign of a good product. Cream teas and hotel rooms.
1.  We're getting busier and busier at Well House Manor 2. Many of our guests are returning guests - we're seeing familiar faces for our cream teas, and some of our hotel guests have been with us dozens of times. What does 1. plus 2. mean? It means we must be doing something right, as our customers ...

3855Mad week done - so come for Croquet
It's been a mad week ... i was going to add "here in Melksham", but Lisa and I haven't been in Melksham - we've been all over the country (or it feels like it). We got back on the train to Melksham at twenty past seven yesterday evening, and I was straight into a meeting at 7:30 at the Town Hall ...
3856Edwardian day with Croquet - Well House Manor, 8th September 2012 - Pictures
Victoria Sponge, Pimms, Croquet, Sunshine, Cucumber Sandwiches, green lawns, some fifty guests and a wonderful staff team all together made for a great afternoon. Thank You all! Well House Manor is open for afternoon tea every day - right through the year. During the summer, enjoy a strawberry ...
3836In the garden at Well House Manor
Well House Manor is set in 3/4 acre of gardens - pictured here on Friday, early in the day as we set up for a garden party at lunchtime. There are some lovely flowers and grasses to see at the moment - I couldn't resist this picture of grasses in the light and a shadowed backdrop ...

On Sunday, 6th May, Well House Manor will again be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for Strawberry Cream Teas. If the weather's sunny and hot, sit in our garden. 3314Garden Seating, Well House Manor
Goodness - it's been a busy few days, and I've been overcoming jetlag ... on Friday we flew into the UK, we spend most of Saturday programming a cash register, and on Sunday we opened for Cream Teas. It's going well - getting easier day by day (as I would have predicted) and we're happy with how it's ...
3296Dog, hotel, Melksham, Wiltshire?
This is Chloe. In the garden at Well House Manor - our hotel in Melksham, Wiltshire. Policy until recently was "no pets" ... but Chloe's owner was booked into another local hotel who accepted more bookings than they had available rooms, and Mr and Mrs Chloe found themselves booked with us ...
1142Planters in the Spring
Christine and Jane (not to forget Ed) have done us proud in transforming a building site into a hotel garden. It's been a big task with major areas to be re-turfed, the debris of ages cleared, new beds installed, and the rawness of the site transformed into the pleasant place that you'll want to stay ...
1786Picturing the rain
A damp August and a really wet start to September. It looks like a tropical storm, doesn't it, but in fact it's a picture I took out of the window of our smaller training room during the MySQL course yesterday. Well House Manor remained water tight, with our approach canopy doing sterling service against ...
1683Plenty of car parking at Well House Manor, Hotel, Melksham
In an ideal world, business at Well House Manor would be evenly spread through the day ... but it doesn't always work out that way. This morning, we were serving breakfast for two dozen in "The Wilts", for our hotel guests - NOT part of the two dozen - in "The Whitworth" - and we had a small group arriving ...
1196The last tree to leaf
Last summer and autumn, we had a great deal of tree work done at Well House Manor - catching up on years of neglect, clearing leylandia that had become a source of friction between the previous owner and her neighbours, and clearing the way for an improved entrance, driveway and parking. In the end, ...
707A story of goldfish
Lisa put five goldfish in our pond the summer before last. We looked at the pond the day after they were introduced and we could see three - but there was plenty of pondweed to hide the others. A day or two later we could only see one fish, and even that was nowhere to be seen a week later. Recently, ...
