For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training. We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.
Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!
I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here)) |
Well House Manor module M160
Environmental
Resources from the web site of Well House Consultants on the subject of Environmental. We provide open source training course and business hotel accommodation in Melksham, Wiltshire, England
Background At Well House Manor, we try to keep our use of resources
to a practical minimum, and our carbon footprint small. Usually,
that makes good business sense too though there are occasions
where health and safety and food hygiene rules mean that we've
got to be a little more wasteful than we might wish.
Articles and tips on this subject | updated | 3863 | Five new fans at Well House Manor Late last week, we installed ceiling fans in four out of the five bedrooms at Well House Manor, and in the museum too. A little bit of air circulation can do wonders on a hot summers day, and can equally drive the hot air that's risen on a cold winter's day down to the bottom of the room. ... | 2012-09-22 | 3134 | Melksham Weather - Warm and windy becoming colder and calmer What's important about the weather to you? For us, it's whether it's going to be wet or dry, sunny or cloudy, hot or cold, windy or calm over the next two or three days. That information's available on the BBC web site, and a host of others - but I want to have it to hand, as a graphic picking out ... | 2011-01-16 | 1800 | Spiders Web I don't know if we should be proud or embarrassed when our delegates compliment us on our magnificent spiders - but as most of them are in the lush plants that lead up to the front door, I think we'll take it as a compliment.
Here's a lucky picture I got of one of the spiders (the others all have camera ... | 2010-10-13 (short) | 2794 | The Farming Industry pictured around Melksham The Countryside isn't in a natural state - it's every much as artificial in how it looks as any town - and that's brought home at this time of year by the young crops in the fields - when you think on it, Melksham is set within a great industrial / commercial food growing area.
The larger farms (pictured ... | 2010-06-04 | 2762 | Well House - Mission and Policy summaries Following on from yesterday's comments about long questionnaires, I've been writing a Mission Statement and Policy summaries. Stripped of examples, they look pretty bald - but then I could fill a month of blogs with examples, reasonings, conundrums and solutions that have lead us to where we are, and ... | 2010-05-14 | 2730 | Bird Watching on the Melksham Avon Suddenly, we've move from a bleak, cold and bare winter to Spring - and today was lovely Spring day. A morning of catching up on the TransWilts meeting of yesterday, then a chance to get out in the afternoon. Here, on the bridge over Semington Brook near Waddon is a twitcher that we met; I certainly ... | 2010-04-18 | 2707 | A walk on the Kennet and Avon Today, I was reminded that just one little push of the rudder of a narrow boat, gently and with a single finder, can channel the power of the eight tons into a change of direction and a force to be recconned with. And that power can be for the great good of the boat movement, or do unspeakable damage.
I ... | 2010-04-04 | 2253 | Walks in and around Melksham, Wiltshire Melksham is a town with a history around every corner - a guest at the hotel on Saturday morning was asking me a few questions, and I've put together a few of the walks that I enjoy from the hotel. To show you how much there is to see on each of these walks, I have also listed out all of the places ... | 2009-06-22 (longer) | 1499 | Climate change, renewable resources and paper v plastic Climate change. End of supplies of fossil fuel. Carbon footprint. Expense of road building. Cost of time lost in travel. Just what effect are we having on our planet - where are we headed and how many of the changes that we see in the climate are natural variations and parts of a natural cycle or ... | 2008-01-09 | 1276 | On flooding in Wiltshire and elsewhere in the West of England Lisa's family, who live half way around the world from us, have heard the news that there are major floods here in the West of England, and wrote to ask if we are effected / all right. I'm quoting from Lisa's reply here ...
We've been in an enviable oasis, both the house and the hotel. Some rain, ... | 2007-07-26 |
