For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

Exercises, examples and other material relating to training module A401. This topic is presented on public course Deploying Java Applications on Linux / Unix

As your application grows, you'll want to use the same logic on many pages without having to duplicate it, and you'll want to group together all the code that refers to a particular type of data (also known as a class of object).

I've been programming for many years; I started off with languages like Fortran and quickly learned that it's a good idea to split the code into named chunks - which were known as FUNCTIONs and SUBROUTINEs. This means that parts of a program can be tested named chunk by named chunk, that chunks can ...

1717Q - Should I use Perl or Python?
An interesting question posed to me today - and not for the first time. And not for the first time, my answer had to be "tell me more about your application, and about the people who will be writing and maintaining it". A comparative diagram on the board provides some help - but of course what's important ...

343Should I use structured or object oriented?
There's no "one size fits all" answer to "what's the best way for me to meet this application requirement", and if you're writing code there will be a number of different approached / methodologies you can use. I'm going to have a look at some of the possible choices and relate it to PHP today ... it's ...
