(Retired) QUIZ FAQ

How to I take a test?

Simply follow the link above, enter your name and email address, and select whether you want to take a beginner's, intermediate or advanced test.

Where can I learn more if I don't score 100%?

At Well House Consultants (you're on our web site as you take these tests) we provide training courses in all the subjects tested, and at various levels too. We'll probably have an appropriate training course for you. If you're not in our part ot the world (we're in England), there are many books available - those that we have in our library are listed here and you can choose an appropriate subject and level based on your test results.

Why are there 15 questions in each test?

15 questions is the minimum number that will provide a statistically significant result each time. With fewer questions, there would be a significant chance of you getting a good result by just guessing, or a poor result because you happened to get one or two questions that you weren't sure of even if your general knowledge of the subject is good.

Why do you ask for my email address?

So that we can get an idea of who's using our system, and so that we can provide you with feedback if you email us to ask about a particular question. We do not sell email lists, nor do we send out bulk unsolicited commercial emails ourselves. You are welcome to enter noone@nowhere.com if you don't wish to give us your true address.

Can I use your test software for my own quiz system?

Yes, but it's up to you to check that it's fit for the purpose that you put it to. The source files are all available on our web site - if you visit our Perl CGI programming module you'll find the links under "course examples". If you would like to learn more, you're very welcome to book on our Perl on the Web course (and our Perl Programming course first if you don't know any Perl).

Please note that although we wrote the quiz code in Perl, a similar application could be written in PHP (course, resources) or in Python (course, resources. These days, it would be a difficult choice between these three if we were to re-develop the code.
