Network testing through Expectk

Network testing through Expectk

Not only do we teach technologies such as Expectk (that's Expect running with Tcl and Tk), but we use them in our own applications as well. What better than to learn Expect from a professional trainer who's also an author and maintainer of Expect code? Whenever we set up for a course, we need to test our network to ensure that all the machines on that particular course are up, running and connected, and we automate this process through Expect and Tk. The ability of Expect to manage a series of parallel spawned processes means that we can quickly test the whole network even if some machines are missing - as in this example graphic which highlights a number of machines that were packed away for an onsite course when we ran the tests.
