At the ancient olympics, the prize wasn't a gold medal but a wreath of olive leaves. Our tour guide at Olypmia, proud of his ancient heritage, plucked three branches from an olive tree and showed demonstrated the making of such a wreath. He described how one of the young maidens was elected before each olympic games to crown the champion atheletes, and had our group re-enact the ceremony actully at the site of the ancient stadium. Here's our very own Lisa, elected to represent Juno, crowning the gentleman who was perhaps the most athletic member of our party.
