For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training. We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.
Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!
I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here)) |
Email from Christopher Columbus to announce finding America?
These days, when I'm away I usually sit working online in my hotel room, waking early to check overnight what's happened. On the train, my phone rings (oops! shoud have been on mute) and I dash for the vestibule to answer. And I see about half of the people in travel waiting rooms online. We're in the world of near-constant connection.
How times have changed! And I realise just how much they've changed this week when I find myself staying in a basement hotel room, where neither my internet dongle nor my phone can get a signal. I'm back, as I post this, to the more social life of a cluster of netheads and communicators in the hotel's reception, or sittimg in the breakfast room (as I am at the moment) sending what I've written overnight, grabbing anything incoming, checking for crises to be dealt with [none that I can see ;-) ]
There IS a lot to be said for the occasional day off ... although that's never going to be total when you run your own business.
Off to catch the tube now there - at least at present - I'll not be contactable for a while. How very different to the days of the great explorers, who left from Plymouth for distant parts, and couldn't email home to say they'd made it safely. (written 2013-01-29)
