
Yes, they should - for by doing so, they can see the rooms and the facilities as the customer sees them. It will help them check the good points, and identify places where things need attention that perhaps wouldn't be noticed in a day to day clean.

Actually, I'll go further. Staff should stay occasionally, using the rooms the customers would use, in the same way that the customers would use them. Yes - drink the complimentary coffee from the hospitality tray, for that way they'll learn that the lovely new kettle won't actually go under the tap and they can do something about it. And watch the TV and connect to the Internet too so that when customers ask them for help, they're knowlegable to do so.

Staff should even arrive and depart through the front door, with their luggage, and at only a roughly expected time. Sure, their colleagues checking them in will know who they are, but they'll be able to look through those other vital eyes at procedures, access, etc.
