Sharpness is one of those places that's famed in the annals of public transport - it's at the mouth of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, where boats drop from the canal into the River Severn, and its also the place on the 'English" side where the Severn Railway bridge used to cross over to the Monmouthshire side. Alas - the railway bridge wasn't reconstructed after an accident which demolished 2 spans on the bridge on 25th October 1960. And the sea lock is quieter - much quieter - than it was in its heyday.
Half an hour to spare before our appointment in the nearby community of Berkeley gave Lisa, Gypsy and myself a chance to park at the picnic spot that looks out down the estuary and stretch our legs ...
