For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
On site course - travel and accommodation expenses

Should we charge our customers when we go on site for our journey to them, and the costs of staying over if need be? In common with our industry's standard, we do charge; when you think about it, that's sensible - otherwise our local customers would be subsidizing people who are based a long way away. However (unlike the rest of the industry) we travel in our own time, rather than charging extra days.

Travel expenses are a quotation rather than an estimate, as customers want to know the cost up front; it's calculated as follows:

• £120 per night for dinner, bed, breakfast and other incidental additional expenses incurred in being away from home (such as overnight parking in some locations)

• 70p per mile travel costs - mileage calculated as the crow flies from our base to the centre of the postcode - for example "L" or "SA".

• £200 for a return ferry crossing if necessary

We do not charge things like bridge and motorway tolls, congestion charge, car parking, extra distance daily between training location and hotel.

If you look at the following links, you'll see the sort of figures quoted for cost of driving and hotels:
http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/advice/advice_rcosts_petrol_table.jsp
http://www.laterooms.com/en/Hotels.aspx?k=london&d=20100925&n=1&rt=1-0#oukxqs
and you'll find that our London charges are a bit of a bargain ...

For further details of on site courses, see [here] - there's a form on that page where you can enter your postcode and see how these figures work out for you.
