Today was a very
public consultation in the Town Hall in Melksham, where the Community area partnership (who's role is to gather and promote the views and aspirations of the Melksham area community) held "Open House" on the core strategy. Newly set up, with a first meeting last December, the Melksham area CAP has until the end of this month to make its inputs to Wiltshire Council.

One of the most difficult aspects of this consultation, which looks a long way ahead, is to get people to take an interest in those issues far into the future but about which we need to think today. And another difficult aspect is to get them to actually
make their inputs rather than just thinking them. The room was carefully set up with around 50 questions on various notice boards, and people were handed pen and paper ... and it was superb to see people going round and actually filling in the forms / passing their comments in. A few of the people who have bene involved in the strategy - the CAP chair, councillors, etc, were available to help / explain what they were doing, and I popped it to lend a hand too.

Descriptions are all well and good, but many of us prefer to work with maps and diagrams; here's an ariel view (printed and corellated from smaller maps by Lisa) of Melksham, giving people a really good idea as to what's where, and where change could take place.
Until 31st January, your view is sought by Melksham CAP too and you can complete an online survey [here]. If you live or work in the Melksham Area, PLEASE complete the survey! [Note - this survey is short enough to be practical and fairly quick!]

One of the things that came to light right through this survey process was the number of immediate issues that people have, and
we have been gathering those too. The CAP is not just about 20 years time - it's also about this year and next - and so it will be taking those issues of rubbish bins, paintwork on roads, and bushes that the local council keep pulling out from private land up too. This final picture is taken from the room in which people were expressing their views, and shows one of the immediate problems - traffic - right outside.
