.gif files

Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 17 June 2003
Not really "which language", but "which file format" ....

The patent on the .gif file technology expires at the end of this month I believe, and once again application developers will be allowed to write and distribute code that produces gif files without the need to make royalty payments or face a court case.

I predict that we'll see even more .gif files around for diagram, cartoons, backgrounds and the like ... with .jpg files still the favoured format for photographic type images.  I don't think that .png really took off ...
