wide integers? Posted by toffe (toffe), 3 June 2005 I'm wondering about what kind of integers the expr commands can handle. First I read that it relies on the long data type of C but I've seen some pages talking about wide 64 bit integers. What can I expect to work in portable way?I would actually like to have arbitrary large integers without the need for any tcl extensions but I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm beginning to think I should have chosen another language for my project and not just jumping onto tcl/tk for the rapid GUI development Tcl has been a nice experience and I like it but the data types feel a bit limiting. Regards, Kristoffer Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 3 June 2005 Arbitary preciision numbers are a bit of a nightmare in many languages ... so you're likely to find frustrations elsewhere. But then I do know that Perl has the "Bigint" module as standard so that may work for you .. and the Tk GUI is available from the CPAN in Perl too. For Tcl, have a look at the math::bigfloat package before you leap out of the frying pan into the fire though! This page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
