what does prompt "(%|#|\\$|%]) $" stands for Posted by shafa.fahad (FahaD), 18 September 2006 Hi, I understand that we use set prompt "(%|#|\\$|%]) $" to resolve the problem of expecting different prompts But i would like to know how exactly setting %|#|\\.... to prompt works If it is expecting any those special characters to recognize a prompt, will a output from any of the process which returns "$" affect the program? say... I login to a remote machine. so after spawing ssh and entering password i will expect prompt. Once I get the prompt I execute a script which returns huge output which has "$" in it... I would like to know, will the expect script recognize "$" as prompt and start sending the input? because i will be expecting prompt to send the next statement.... If It will not get affected, I am pleased to hear the reason behind the same. Thanks in advance, Fahad Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 18 September 2006 It's looking for a string that ends with % # $ or %], followed in all cases with a single space. It does seem unlikely that you would have another process write a string ending in such a way as part of its main flow, but it's not impossible and, yes, that could cause a problem. If it can happen, you need to code for it.Posted by shafa.fahad (FahaD), 18 September 2006 Thanks GrahamThis page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
