grep for lines between words in a file Posted by ramkriz (ramkriz), 26 August 2008 Hi all,I have a file called as sample. I need to grep all the lines present between the keywords "start" and "End" in the file. I started with this but it never enters the IF loop. Any help to grep the data from the file will be helpfull.. Do let me know if there is an easier approach than this.. Code: set file sample set Intial start set test 1 set Final end set found 1 set fp [open $file ] while {-1 != [gets $fp line]} { if($test) { set test [string compare $line $Initial] set found =1 } if($found) { send "$line\r" } } Error: ./log invalid command name "if(1)" while executing "if($test) " ("while" body line 2) invoked from within "while {-1 != [gets $fp line]} { Thanks Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 27 August 2008 The immediate error is a syntax one - replaceif($test) with if {$test} (change round brackets ti curly braces, and add a space after the word "if". Looks like you've been writing too much Perl! Posted by ramkriz (ramkriz), 27 August 2008 Yes Graham. Iam used to perl. I have done the same in perl. I need to do it in TCL...looks so difficult to me.. Need your help...set file sim18 set Initial start set test 1 set fp [open $file ] while {-1 != [gets $fp line]} { if {$test} { set test [string compare $line $Initial] set found =1 } if {$found} { send "$line\r" } } It throws out the following error ./tyhoonlog wrong # args: no script following "{$test}" argument while compiling "if {$test} " This page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
