For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
binding rectangles in tk-canvas

Posted by vinzy1983 (vinzy1983), 29 November 2004
hi,
could someone pls tell me how to bind a rectangle with a procedure call, in a canvas??

i guess i should be using tags to do this, but i'm not very clear with using tags for binding..

would be more helpful if u can give me a piece of code as an example...

We've got a complete piece of code you can look at (and cut and paste as an example if you wish) at http://www.wellho.net/resources/ex.php4?item=t219/can2.

In this example, a numer of shapes including two rectangles are drawn.  Some of the shapes (including one of the rectangles) can be picked up by the mouse and dragged around through the bining tags mechanism, whereas other shapes are static and cannot be altered.

I think this provides the example you're looking for - the procedure bound to in this example is the mouse drag ....

hi graham,
thanks for the useful example code..
but while binding, can call some other procedure instead of writing lines of code.
bcoz in my application i am calling an already written procedure.
it is something like::::
bind  rect_tag <Double-1> \
"draw_gui ../utils/$elem_from_res_use_list_right.pm $index_for_top $cc_cnt"

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Yes, you can. You can bind to any command you like, including a command you have defined yourself as a "proc" or one that someone else has defined and you have loaded. It's standard Tcl.
