String match to \ Posted by enquirer (enquirer), 2 November 2002 How do I use the string match command to check whether a variable contains a string that ends with a \?Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 2 November 2002 Code:
You want to literally match a \ character, so the string match command needs to receive the special sequence \\ in a similar way to it would need to receive \* if it was to match an asterisk. The Tcl interpretter also uses the \ as a special character, and in order to pass a \ through there it also needs an extra \ added for protection - to EACH of the two \ characters that you want to get through to the match pattern. Thus you use \\\\ if you want to literally match a \. This page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
