For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

Hii Evrybody..

M new to TCL , only 1 week..

You cannot easily check for a valid IP address in a single regular expression;   regular expressions are great for character handling but they get a bit trickier when it comes to checking number ranges.

As an alternative, you should:

a) Check the basic structure of the address (1 to 3 digits, dot, 1 to 3 digits, dot, 1 to 3 digits, dot, one to three digits) using a regular expression

b) Split the string that you're checking at the "." charcater and check each 4 elements of the resulting list to ensure that it's in the range 0 to 255.

You can extent this is you wish to check that you have the real address of a computer rather than a broadcast address by adding extra tests.

Trying to do everything in a single regular expression is a bit "macho" - people try to do it but they end up looking a bit silly when they overstretch.

How can you learn Tcl?   Well ... as a trainer who teaches Tcl courses I have to recommend our Tcl course, now don't I?
