For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

hi,

how do i get my tables and records from the db on my machine into the db on my ISPs server?  is there a way to just directly import table-by-table or better yet the entire db?  any help would be greatly appreaciated.  thanks

If you have phpmyadmin, use that.  It's very easy and works very well.  If you don't have phpmyadmin, I believe there are some php scripts that will do it for you, but I'm not familiar with them.

Yep, if you don't have phpmyadmin, use mysqldump on your loacl machine and then the "mysql" utility to upload the dump file.

OK, so i have figured out how to dump my db into a file and how to log on to the db on the ISP server (yes i am a complete newbie) what is the command to import the dump file into the db?  once again thanks so much for your help.

You willo

    mysql  -hservername  -uusername  -ppassword
    source  dumpfilename

If you're running the mysql on the server, then you'll need to FTP the file up there first.   Depending on the options you used in the mysqldump, you may need to do a
     use databasename
before the
     source dumpfilename
