Microsoft Excel to Mysql Posted by bschultz (bschultz), 7 February 2003 Does anyone know of a good, Excel to Mysql converter? Thanks. Brian Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 8 February 2003 Well - Excel is a spreadsheet and MySQL is a relational database, so it's not a like for like conversion (I expect you realise this, but I'm making the point for any other readers to this forum). You can transfer the data across from Excel easily enough (see following) without any special software, but you will loose your calculations and spreadsheet layouts, and you'll have to work out your MySQL data types for each column.Method? 1. Save in Excel as a tab separated variable file 2. Create your table in MySQL (use the mysql utility or some other tool if this is a one-off transfer) 3. Pull the data into MySQL via the mysql utility and the LOAD command You ask for a "good" convertor. This is good in that you have good control over it, but it's not exactly high-tech nor "call up a GUI - push a button - there it goes". As a one off it will probably do you; if you're (!!!) keeping you data in Excel but have to have it accessible on line via an ISP who'll hold it in a MySQL table for you, you'll probably want to at least automate some of the steps via script files.
