For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Compiling Java into object files?

Posted by enquirer (enquirer), 8 September 2002
"I want to run my Java in a native environment rather than through a Java Virtual Machine.   Is it possible for me to get .o or .obj files out from the compiler, rather than .class files?"

Have a look at gcc - the Gnu Compiler Collection.  Although gcc originated as the Gnu C Compiler, these days it supports a variety of languages including Java. See:
http://gcc.gnu.org/java/ or http://gcc.gnu.org

As well as the compiler, no doubt our enquirer will also be looking for the class libraries to make up the equivalent of the JRE (Java Runtime Environment); the good news is that most of these are available although there may be some lag in them being written when new packages and methods are added in the latest release of Java.  Also noe that you're not going to be able to compile up an applet with gcc and expect it to run within someone's Explorer or Netscape - the browser plugins are designed to support JRE code; perhaps it's for this reason that support for a few packages such as AWT may be missing or developmental.
