For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Looking for the Paragraph subroutine

Posted by enquirer (enquirer), 8 March 2003
I came to your side and tried that perl script:

Using Perl to read Microsoft Word documents

Unfortunately this program calls a subroutine aragraphs()

You don't have accidently that sourcecode ??

I think you're asking about the script that's at:
           http://www.wellho.net/solutions/1480965085.html

It's a script that reads a Microsoft Word document and saves each
piece of text (and its paragraph tag) to a plain text file ....

The Paragraph subroutine is provided via the Win32:LE  or the
WIn32:LE::Enum modules which are loaded at the top of the Perl
script.   These modules are provided in the ActiveState version of
Perl, and they use Microsoft Word's .dll files to actually process the
word document.

So ... to answer your question ...

"The paragraph subroutine is provided by the Perl module working in
association with Microsoft  Word.   This Perl script will only work on a machine
with that module and with Word."    I'm afraid that if you have been given a
Word document and want to get the text out from it on (say) a Linux box that
doesn't have any of Mr Gate's software on it, this isn't the script for you!
