For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Is this possible?

Hi,

Im a newbie to Perl so bare with me and try not to laugh too much while i pose this query to one and all!

Basically, im attempting to set up some client/server software on windows/unix, respectively. I intend to encode all the bulk of the connectity in perl using SOAP lite and have a frontend of TK.

I have the basics set up now. But what i want to know is.......
Is it possible to connect using the windows client to the unix server, run a unix shellscript (serverside) and interactively have any prompts that are requiring user input be passed back across the connection to the windows client so they can be responded to by the user?

If someone could point me in the right ditecion with what sort commands to do this with or the kind of SDK that would better suit this objective then it would be very very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

You're doing prettry well if you've got all the SOAP and TK stuff running already - scarcely a newbie any more

Your query shouts "expect" at me - see CPAN documentation on expect for much more.   Now ... if you client is windows that might prove to be impractical and you might wish to set up your own service - easy-peasy to do BUT if you're not very careful you'll open up a fresh port on the server to anyone else who might wish to get in - chance of major security problems.   There may be other ways possible too ... but there are two to start you off.
