For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Cheers etc.

Running and moderating a forum can sometimes be a daunting task. It must be even more so when you run courses like Graham does. People post things, answers are made and there are moments when you wonder if it's all worth it.

Over the last year I have been filling my spare time putting together a back-end for client websites. My hair is a little grayer, the ol' belly is a bit bigger (from sitting at the keyvboard for hours on end) and I think I missed spring.

A number of times I have posted items on this forum because my speciality is design and I often get lost in a dictionary trying to figure out what programmers are talking about (and subsequently forgetting what it was I was hoping to solve in the first place). Here, however, good clear answers are provided. The kind of answers that make you rethink how problems are approached. This has led me to attempt stuff I would never have considered before (I got lost in "Hello World" the first time). One answer to an item had me going for weeks on an, "I wonder what would happen if I did this....." (crash a laptop - you don't know the meaning of the term).

Earlier today I had reached a point with a content management system I've been working on since last summer - to where it looks good, works good and does it quickly. So when I put a base (empty) skeleton website, with the CMS and my stats scripts in a folder for a size check - I got a neat surprise. It came out to 352k actual size (disk size will depend on the system - local on my PC is 768k).

This is nearly all a result from posting a query here and then growing from that point.

So a big thanks to Graham and Custard for their input. It has all been worth it.

Ted, your comments are much appreciated.  Messages such as this make it all worthwhile
