SYNOPSIS
The most common cause of complaint at work is ÔThe Boss': the power-hungry bross, the boss who exploits, the boss who overlooks, the incompetent boss, and the boss who simply shouldn't be a boss at all. In all cases they are unlikely to change, but they can be influenced -- by YOU.
Managing your boss is the only way to stop the system grinding you down. But first you have to know the system:
- identify the power-structure of your organization
- know your own job
- know your allies within the organization
- know your boss
And then concentrate on:
- capturing your boss's attention
- convincing your boss of the benefit of having your support
- proving that benefit by doing a good job
- making your boss fear losing that support
- extracting your Ôprice' for continuing to provide it.
How to Manage your Boss is a step-by-step guide over the hurdles of working life. It takes you through the sensitive issues of criticism, trust, assertiveness, power and dependency, of how to claim your success and admit your failures, and shows you the way to the ultimate goal -- improving your job.
