SYNOPSIS
Oliver Jones's introduction to the X Window System provides an exploration into this new portable software standard for workstations. Developmed for MIT's project Athena by Robert W Scheifler and Jim Gettys, the X Window system is able to control the displays of engineering workstations, as well as provide a standard environment to various application software, such as page layout editors and computer aided design packages.
